POWER TRIP During Soviet times in Georgia, electricity was paid by the state; therefore, it has been hard for citizens to get used to the high prices after regaining independence in 1991. In 1999, the American company AES undertakes to ‘bring the light’ to the inhabitants of Georgia. Soon, radical culture differences show up between the Americans and the Georgians. The first want to bring order and a system, but the latter do not feel any necessity for it. The central character, Piers Lewis, is an employee of the company collecting the fee from the local inhabitants. He has decided not to cut his hair as long as at least 50% of all the debts are paid. Paul Devlin spent three years, shooting material for this film, which is acknowledged to be the best documentary in Florida’s IFF.
